We are all very excited after finishing our cutting trends class. "It was a great class that we all really learned a lot from", said Master Stylist/Salon Lead Hilary Cowdin. "Larissa did such a great job going from the initial design to the finished cut & style. We worked on three new women cuts and one new men's cut. Everyone is very excited to try them out on their guests".

As a graduate of the Aveda Institute, Larissa Wong joined Juut Salonspa (formerly known as Horst Salons) in 1993. As a stylist, Larissa has participated as a team member for numerous shows and photo shoots including Aveda Congress Festival, Neiman Marcus trunk shows, and New York Fashion Week.
Also an educator at Juut Salonspa and the Aveda Institute, Larissa has facilitated classes in the Aveda Collections as well as workshops in fundamental styling techniques. In 2003, Larissa was selected as a member of the Aveda Purefessional team specializing in advanced training.
Larissa has over ten years of experience in the industry and was recognized as a top retail and revenue producer. She has taken advanced course work in Los Angeles, London, Paris and Hong Kong.

RECYCLE CAPS WITH AVEDA

Aveda found that a majority of plastic bottle caps do not get recycled today.

Often these caps end up as litter or trash, ending up in landfills and beaches or migrating into our rivers and oceans. Birds and other marine creatures mistake them for food with tragic results. The magnitude of this pollution problem is devastating to our oceans and wildlife.

LIV Aveda Salon & Spa has been part of this program from the beginning. Most of the collecting has been a grass roots approach in the Mankato, MN area. Most of the caps have come from guests who are part of the local school systems, or children of our guests who want to do something to help the Earth.

You can be part of the solution by joining Recycle Caps with Aveda.

Aveda's recycling initiative helps extend the current boundaries of recycling and elicit participation from all corners of our community. With the help of our network of salons and stores, in partnership with community schools, Aveda is building a new recycling program for plastic bottle caps in which caps are collected at stores and schools and then sent by Aveda to our recycler where the material is recycled into new caps and containers. Aveda has been able to work closely with our suppliers to develop ways to make new caps and containers from the recycled caps. We hope to ship new products using this reworked, environmentally-friendly material later this year.

Recently the Girl Scouts of America approached Aveda Corp. to help collect caps. General Manager of LIV Aveda Salon & Spa, Magen Feuchtenberger stated, "The Girls Scouts of America contacted us to see if they can partner with us as a drop spot for the local chapters". "We didn't anticipate just how many caps would show up". Co-Owner of LIV Aveda Salon & Spa Tami Tupy said, "Just this weeks we've had thousands of caps dropped off and it is sad to know that for years many of these caps have been ending up in landfills."

Advanced Color Class with David Adams

This last week we had eight (8) of our staff attend the Advanced Color Class that defines the process of creating exceptional hair color. The following team members from LIV Aveda Salon & Spa attended this class: Jill, Catina, Amy G., Jenna F., Jonnel, Ashley S., Whitney, and Jessica.

The class was performed by David Adams. David Adams, Technical Artistic Director for Aveda Corporation, is responsible for the development of Aveda Advanced Academies on a Global basis. He will oversee the technical development of the Purefessional program, Master Jam and Aveda on Tour. In addition, David collaborates with the Creative and Marketing teams to develop seasonal collections and strengthen Aveda’s link to the art, fashion and design communities. His vision is to create work that speaks to the hairdresser through images that inspire them linked to education that sustains them.

Among David’s many celebrity clients are Alex Kingston, Anna Friel, Bjork, Brenda Blethyn, Cher, Claudia Schiffer, Heather Graham, Jude Law, Kylie Minogue, Minnie Driver, Peter Gabriel, Sadie Frost, The Spice Girls, Sting and Stockard Channing. He has worked on numerous fashion shows, including Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan and Balenciaga. His film work includes Secrets and Lies, Shopping, Event Horizon, From Hell and Killing Me Softly. He has worked in the theatre on Bugsy Malone and Six Degrees of Separation, and his television assignments have included Eastenders, ER, Poirot and The Governess. Since starting at LIV AVEDA Gina had the opportunity to attend the advanced Chakra Massage Training at the Aveda Institue. The Chakra Massage uses massage techniques in conjunction with specially-formulated aromatheraputic Chakra Balancing Blends. The treatment combines deep tissue massage, chakra reflexology and chakra visualization techniques, with a focus on harmonizing each of the seven energy chakra centers of the body.

Skin Care Event

We had a great skin care event this last Friday, March 13, 2009.

It turned out great. We had a lot of guests come in to get their skin consultation and makeup application. Brenda and Candace were the estiticians from LIV that were helping out, and Kevin from Aveda was also on hand to help out. Thank you Kevin for also bringin in a Makeup Artist from the Aveda network to help out with makeup. We will be doing more of these in the future, so if you want to be part of any future events please provide us your email so you will be the first to know.
